Authentic smoke sauna experience & ice swimming in an atmospheric sauna world
Experience the gentle warmth of a traditional smoke sauna and the refreshing benefits of an icy dip in the stunning natural surroundings of Lake Orivesi.
The atmospheric sauna world of Lastun Paikat is located on the shores of Lake Orivesi in Puhos, Kitee. The area is peaceful, with no neighbors, and ample parking space is in front of the main building. The premises include a main building once used as a former chipboard factory's corporate facility, a traditional Lappish hut, a smoke sauna, and a rustic underground hut.
The café in the main building is open on smoke sauna evenings.
The main building of Lastun Paikat offers a lounge with a fireplace, two restrooms, three bedrooms, a changing room, a bathroom with two showers, and an electric sauna. Around the fireplace in the Lappish hut, at least ten people can sit comfortably on reindeer hides. The hut is a charming log room built into a hillside, with only the front wall visible. Inside, there is a large table seating about 15 people, a sofa bed, a fireplace, cold water, and a refrigerator. The hut makes a cozy and scenic gathering spot with a view of the lake when the wooden shutters are opened. The area’s forested paths connect the buildings, illuminated by lights along boardwalks/duckboards.
Master builder Oiva Karjalainen designed the turf-roofed smoke sauna which can accommodate around 10-15 people. It’s constructed from submerged logs found off the shores of Savonlinna. Oiva Karjalainen's smoke sauna, located by Lake Puruvesi, is over 50 years old and still provides unique warmth today. This smoke sauna features a hand shower, a small front terrace, and a window view of the lake. The sauna provides a slowly dissipating heat, allowing for extended relaxation, and a well-heated smoke sauna can remain warm for hours, even until morning, depending on the weather.
Arrival and Payment
Check-in at the café in the main building, where staff will guide you to an available changing room. If you haven't prepaid for the sauna online, you can pay the sauna fees at the café, where cash and card payments are accepted. The three bedrooms in the main building and the electric sauna’s changing room serve as dressing areas. Sauna time is about 1.5 hours. In addition to the smoke sauna and its hand shower, the showers in the main building are available. Seat covers are included in the price.
What to Bring: The smoke sauna is unisex, so bring a swimsuit, towel, toiletries, swim shoes or socks. It’s 50 meters from the main building to the swimming jetty and 70 meters from the smoke sauna.
The café in the main building sells soft drinks, coffee, tea, savory and sweet snacks. You can also buy sausages to grill in the lounge’s fireplace.
Reservations and Payment:
To book your sauna time, select either a reservation request (pay on arrival) or online payment in our webshop, allowing immediate payment. It's important for us to know the number of participants per time slot. Reservations can also be made by phone call or via WhatsApp at +358 400 418 933 or +358 40 750 2921.
Price: 20€ for adults and 10€ for children under 15 years.
Payment methods: online in advance or upon arrival by card or cash.
