The scent of smoke drifts in the air, the lake lies quiet and the steam is soft and gentle. A sauna evening at Lastun Paikat by Lake Orivesi offers an authentic Finnish sauna experience in the peace of nature – just as sauna bathing is at its very best.

You can choose a traditional smoke sauna, an electric sauna, or enjoy both during the same evening. You can also refresh yourself in an ice hole in the lake!

Atmospheric sauna world by the lake

The sauna area of Lastun Paikat is located on the shore of Lake Orivesi in Puhos, Kitee. The area is peaceful, with no neighbours within sight. You move between the buildings along illuminated boardwalks through natural forest terrain.

The area includes the main building with lounge areas, a cosy kota hut, a turf-roofed smoke sauna, and a log-built korsu partly embedded into a hillside. There is plenty of parking space, and the café in the main building is open during sauna evenings.

Smoke sauna – slow and gentle steam

The turf-roofed smoke sauna was designed by master builder Oiva Karjalainen and accommodates approximately 10–15 people. The sauna is built from sunken logs recovered from the waters near Savonlinna.

The steam in the smoke sauna is soft and long-lasting. A well-heated smoke sauna offers deeply relaxing baths for hours – sometimes even the next morning, depending on weather conditions.

The smoke sauna is equipped with a hand shower, a small terrace in front of the sauna, and a small-paned window with a view of the lake.

Electric sauna and other facilities

The main building features a spacious electric sauna for approximately 12 people, which is also available to sauna guests alongside the smoke sauna. On the electric sauna side, you will also find two showers and lounge areas with fireplaces.

What to bring

The smoke sauna is mixed-gender, so please bring a swimsuit, towel, swim shoes/water shoes/woollen socks, and a good mood.

The distance from the main building to the pier is approx. 50 m and from the smoke sauna approx. 70 m.

Café and refreshments

The café in the main building sells soft drinks, coffee and tea, as well as small savoury and sweet snacks. Sausages are also available for purchase and can be grilled in the fireplace in the lounge area.

Prices, booking and payment

The price of the sauna evening is €20 per person. Children under 15 years of age participate free of charge.

For us, the most important thing is to know how many participants are coming and for which time slot. If something comes up, we kindly ask you to inform us of any cancellation – no cancellation fees are charged.
